We need to make the world safer for women. Women should enjoy the same fundamental human rights as men.
The United Nations lists gender empowerment as a critical sustainable goal. In order to achieve this, women need to be safe. I believe education is the most effective tool to transform the trajectory of a person’s life. And yet, in many parts of the world, girls will not receive an education because it is dangerous to send them to schools.
Safety should not be a luxury for women, it should be an essential human right.
With this in mind, we chose the XPRIZE platform to launch the Anu & Naveen Women’s Safety XPRIZE. The goal is to use technology to allow communities to rapidly respond to threats against any of its members, ensuring that help is always available.
Let’s all make the world safer for women today.
The XPRIZE will allow the innovators of the world to design a transformational tool - a lifeline solution - that can set a new safety standard. Competing teams in the Anu & Naveen Jain Women’s Safety XPRIZE will develop an affordable solution under $40 per year that will trigger location-accurate alerts in emergency situations, even in low-connectivity scenarios, to transmit alerts to a network of responders and rapidly provide a response to the user within 90-seconds that help is on the way.
The Women’s Safety XPRIZE is critical as improving the safety of women improves the lives of all. Creating a wearable device for the primary reason of safety can be an easy entry point which will enable families to participate in a safer society.
Anyone in the world can form a team, register, and compete in the Anu & Naveen Jain Women’s Safety XPRIZE. The prize is $1 million. Registration is open now through April 28th, 2017.
Together we will make the world safer for women.
