In the 1990’s Niall was an equity analyst and corporate financier at Deutsche Bank South Africa, rising to head of investment banking. A major driver of Niall’s work was to educate global institutional investors about Nelson Mandela and the New South Africa, a fundamentally inspiring story of reconciliation and hope.
After Deutsche Bank, Niall was the founder CEO of Royal Bafokeng Holdings, which became the world’s largest community-owned investment company. Owned by the Royal Bafokeng, an indigenous rural community of 150,000 people, the value of the company grew to more than four billion dollars. In addition, dividends of well over a hundred million dollars have been invested in community infrastructure and services, empowering and transforming the lives of tens of thousands of people.
In 2015 Niall co-founded CG Tech, a collection of owner-manager led businesses that seek to solve client problems in unique and efficient ways, as well as uplift the communities within which they operate. With a focus on engineering, construction services and equipment rental, CG Tech has operations in South Africa, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom. Many of the group’s 3,000 employees are lowly skilled migrant workers from Africa and the Indian sub-continent. Niall and his partners recognize first-hand how poverty of opportunity and lack of education constrain these labor-sending communities. CG Tech deals with these issues holistically through its policies and initiatives around remuneration and benefits, lifelong learning, family and community upliftment, and use of technologies.
Niall graduated at the University of Cape Town and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales, and the CFA Institute. He is a member of the TIGER21 and A360 networks and is a Fellow of Trinity College London and of the Royal Society of Arts. Niall lives in London, plays the trombone, and has keen interests in education, longevity, biodiversity, and sustainable models for nature conservancies.
