Dr. Krutka has spent her post-graduate career focused on research, development, communications, and advocacy low-emissions energy technologies, including CO2 capture, utilization, and storage. In her current role as Vice President Coal Generation and Emissions Technologies, Dr. Krutka is working to advance the development and deployment of technologies that can reduce emissions from the generation and use of coal. Previously, Dr. Krutka was Senior Research Analyst at Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, where she served on the Industrial Advisory Board for the Wyoming Integrated Test Center—a testing facility to give technology developers access to flue gas from a coal-fired power plant and a host site for the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE competition. Prior to joining Tri-State, Dr. Krutka was the Executive Editor for Cornerstone, The Official Journal of the World Coal Industry launched by the Beijing-based Shenhua Group and the World Coal Association. While Executive Editor, Dr. Krutka was responsible for leading an international team to publish a journal focused on policies and technologies impacting the international coal sector. Prior to her role as Executive Editor, Dr. Krutka was a Senior Research Engineer at ADA Environmental Solutions, where she was responsible for overseeing all activities related to CO2 emissions control. In that role, Dr. Krutka’s research was focused on the development of a novel dry-sorbent based CO2 capture process. Dr. Krutka is the lead author on two patents and several other patent applications related to that research.
Dr. Krutka has also received several awards and has a demonstrated continued service to further CCUS R&D. For example, in 2016 Dr. Krutka was the Chair of the Engineering Conferences International CO2 Summit II, an international, interdisciplinary conference focused on CCUS. In 2014 Dr. Krutka was appointed to the National Coal Council by U.S. Secretary of Energy, Ernest Moniz; shortly after her appointment she was invited to serve on the National Coal Council Executive Committee. In 2012 Dr. Krutka was one of the technical leaders of a team presented with an R&D 100 award (shared with the Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory).
