Angelos Kokkinos is a consultant in fuels, emissions controls, carbon emissions capture and controls, critical minerals and energy systems. He recently retired following a 44-year career in the energy industry. For the past six years he was Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Carbon Management Office in the Office of Fossil Energy & Carbon Management at the Department of Energy.
He was responsible for managing and planning of fossil energy and emissions controls including capture of carbon dioxide emissions advanced R&D. He managed a portfolio of close to $500 Million of Federal R&D with close to half of that being in the area of capturing and safely and securing storing carbon dioxide emissions. Prior to joining the DOE, he was Chief Technology Officer for Babcock Power, Inc., a Massachusetts company (Danvers and Marlboro), a major supplier of steam generation and environmental control equipment for utility (solar, nuclear and fossil) and industrial applications. He was responsible for the design of the world’s largest concentrated solar power plant located in Ivanpah CA. He is the recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Achievement Award in Energy Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. He is the holder of six US Patents and received a BS in Chemical Engineering from the Univ. of Massachusetts Lowell and MS in Fuel Science from the Pennsylvania State University.
