Amira is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam. She obtained her PhD at University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, where her research focused on the intersection of quantum mechanics and machine learning theory in order to solve problems that are not possible to compute classically. She also served as an active member of numerous community driven initiatives centered around strengthening science and technology in Africa.

She was a recipient of Google’s PhD fellowship, a former intern in the Google Quantum AI team and previously a predoc researcher at IBM Quantum (Zurich). She also received scholarships from the National Institute for Theoretical Physics and the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust for my PhD in quantum computing. Before transitioning to physics, she worked in the investment industry where she completed all CFA examinations and won the CFA Institute Women’s Scholarship award.
